Hamilton Leithauser has had some free time currently for the reason that Walkmen’s remaining present in Brooklyn again in 2023. Now he has one thing to point out for it within the type of a brand new solo album referred to as This Aspect Of The Island, which options December’s title observe in addition to at this time’s new single “Knockin’ Coronary heart.”
This Aspect Of The Island predates the Walkmen’s reunion, with Leithauser saying in a press release that he began engaged on it eight years in the past (“Barack Obama was president”). He co-produced the album together with his spouse Anna, whereas he introduced in his pal Aaron Dessner of the Nationwide to do extra work at his Lengthy Pond Studios. Of “Knockin’ Coronary heart,” Leithauser says:
“Knockin’ Coronary heart” is sung by an estranged, stoned lover on their manner residence, who’s dying to get a message by to somebody who might be not listening. It’s ‘I’ll love you for all times in case you’ll let me.’ I wrote and recorded it one night and put it away for over a 12 months. I knew I preferred it, and I didn’t wish to mess something up by attempting to good it. It was the final music I performed for Aaron once we bought collectively, and the primary music he helped me work on. I’d say he raised the ceiling and lowered the ground on your complete factor sonically. He truly used a humorous bass method he mentioned he’d used on a Taylor Swift music, which I bought a kick out of. I gotta say his bass sounds implausible. Now there are three basses on it! One among mine and two of his. That may be a first for me.
