Essentially the most well-known piano in southern rock is being auctioned and is estimated to fetch $100,000-$150,000. It is being offered as a part of an public sale of greater than 600 tons related to The Hit Manufacturing unit, the New York Metropolis studio the place albums like Bruce Springsteen‘s Born In The USA, Meat Loaf‘s Bat Out Of Hell and John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Double Fantasy have been recorded.
The Baldwin grand piano, which is nearly 100 years previous, may be heard on periods for Derek & The Dominos’ Layla, The Allman Brothers Band’s Eat a Peach and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Road Survivors, in addition to on songs by Aretha Franklin, the Bee Gees and Ray Charles.
“Holding that piano was greater than holding onto an instrument,” says Danielle Germarno, daughter of the late producer Ed Germarno, who purchased the studio in 1975. “It was preserving a tangible piece of music legacy, the place every notice, every scratch, every signal of damage holds tales of artists pouring their souls into the music.”
The piano is accompanied by a framed show that includes the album cowl, monitor sheets, session images and an unique copy of the Layla album signed and inscribed by producer Tom Dowd. The profitable bidder may even obtain an RIAA Platinum gross sales award for Layla introduced to Standards Recording Studios, the Miami studio Ed Germano bought in 1998.
Among the many different tons up for grabs are RIAA gross sales awards for albums by Bob Dylan, Aerosmith, Kiss, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, the Rolling Stones and U2.
