fiftieth anniversary version of David Bowie’s Younger Individuals introduced

A restricted version half-speed mastered LP version of David Bowie’s Younger Individuals is to be launched for its fiftieth anniversary.  

For his ninth studio album Bowie embraced what he referred to as ‘Plastic Soul’ and scored his first No.1 single within the US, Fame, co-written with John Lennon and Bowie’s then guitarist, Carlos Alomar.

The album was partly influenced by the ‘Philly Sound’ and recorded in Philadelphia at Sigma Sound studios throughout a break within the Diamond Canines tour with a band that featured amongst others Bowie stalwart Mike Garson on keys, together with the late Luther Vandross on vocals and David Sanborn on saxophone.

The Philly Sound

In the course of the Tony Visconti produced classes at Sigma Sound, Bowie immersed himself in soul music and created a brand new persona referred to as The Gouster, a slang time period for a hip avenue character. An early model of the album utilizing this title was issued on the boxset Who Can I Be Now? (1974-1976).

When the tour recommenced, Bowie radically reworked the setlist to include the brand new materials and stripped the frilly manufacturing of the tour again to mirror a radically new musical route.

On the finish of the tour in December ’74, classes continued at The File Plant and, whereas recording in New York, Bowie related with John Lennon, the place they recorded a canopy of The Beatles’ Throughout The Universe and a brand new collaborative composition, Fame at Electrical Girl Studios.  The New York classes had been co-produced by David and File Plant engineer Harry Maslin.

Enter The Gouster

Bowie opted to not tour following Younger Individuals’ launch, and inside 9 months,  had moved on once more, releasing his subsequent album, Station To Station, and reinventing himself as soon as once more within the persona of The Skinny White Duke.
