Dawnwalker is the long-running progressive post-metal undertaking from London guitarist/vocalist Mark Norgate. For Norgate’s seventh full-length, The Between, he’s assembled a solid of 12 musicians—from saxophonists to pianists to percussionists to vocalists—to accompany him on a single 32-minute monitor, “The Between.” The monitor sprawls out like a guided meditation piece, full with intermittent narration, and seamlessly floats from dreamy soundscapes to extra tension-filled dirges on its prolonged path. It’s, nevertheless, by no means boring, as devices and voices are woven out and in of the musical narrative.
